As a beginner, your strings should do two things: give you easy power since you are still developing your swing, and be comfortable on your arm.
The default recommendation for beginners. Affordable, balanced, and comfortable enough. Most pre-strung racquets come with synthetic gut.
A step up in comfort and feel. Multifilament construction absorbs vibration and provides easy power. Worth the upgrade if you play 2+ times per week.
Another excellent multifilament. Slightly more power-oriented than NRG2. Great for players who want the ball to fly without swinging hard.
Skip polyester. Unless you are breaking strings regularly or already have a fast full swing, polyester will feel stiff and dead for a beginner.
Once you are consistently hitting with topspin and your groundstrokes have pace, you can start experimenting with polyester or hybrid setups. Most players reach this point around the 3.5 level.
